About Touhou Koumakyou New Classic

New Classic HUD showing unlimited-lives challenge mode and modern accessibility options

Touhou Koumakyou New Classic is the official 2026 remaster of Embodiment of Scarlet Devil, rebuilt by Shanghai Alice Reprise with ZUN at the center and published by Alliance Arts. It is a single-player vertical danmaku shooter on Steam, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PlayStation 5. New Classic adds 1080p visuals, ZUN rearrangements, unlimited lives with a death counter, Spell Practice, a visible hitbox, and boss markers. The bundled Classic version recreates the 2002 game as closely as possible, in Japanese only. Start with the getting started guide, learn controls, then compare New Classic vs Classic. Pick a shot from the shot type ranking or the Reimu and Marisa pages. Clear six stages with the walkthrough, then beat Remilia and Flandre on Extra. Practice tools live in the practice planner and system requirements. Launch details and Deluxe tracks sit under launch notes and the Deluxe edition. Official stores are listed on links.

Quick start

Five steps from buying the remaster to beating Remilia and unlocking Extra.

  1. 1

Buy New Classic and boot both versions

Standard edition includes New Classic plus the Japanese-only Classic build. Grab it on Steam or consoles, then read New Classic vs Classic before you grind.

  2. 2

    Learn movement, focus, and bombs

Map shot, bomb, and focus in controls. New Classic shows a hitbox while focused; Classic keeps the 2002 feel. Practice the first two stages from the getting started checklist.

  3. 3

Pick Reimu or Marisa and a shot type

Reimu covers the screen; Marisa punches a lane. Compare Reimu, Marisa, and the shot type ranking before a serious credit.

  4. 4

Clear Easy or Normal, then Remilia

Follow the stage walkthrough and the Remilia guide. Unlimited lives in Challenge Mode teaches patterns; a 1CC still needs bombs and routing.

  5. 5

    Unlock Extra and survive Flandre

Beat the main game on Normal or higher without continuing to unlock Extra. Use the Extra Stage route and the Flandre guide, plus the practice planner.
