System Requirements

Steam minimum (New Classic and Classic)

Steam publishes one minimum block for Touhou Koumakyou New Classic and repeats it on Classic. There is no separate recommended table beyond “requires a 64-bit processor and operating system.”

  • OS: Windows 10 or Windows 11, 64-bit
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-8350U
  • Memory: 4GB RAM
  • Graphics: Intel UHD Graphics 620
  • DirectX: Version 11
  • Storage: 1GB available space
  • Architecture: 64-bit CPU and OS required

The i5-8350U plus UHD 620 is a 2017 U-series laptop chip. Newer Intel 8th-gen U-series or anything above it clears the bar. 32-bit Windows does not. DirectX 11 is the API floor; do not hunt for a DirectX 8 wrapper.

Steam lists about 1GB of disk for the game. The soundtrack app (4924910) lists its own 1GB line. Budget extra if you buy Deluxe Edition on PC. This is a 1080p 2D shooter. The bottleneck is a fixed 60fps, not fillrate. UHD 620-class iGPUs should hold 60 if Windows is not stuck on battery saver. Close extra Chrome tabs on 4GB machines so the iGPU is not fighting the browser for RAM.

Steam Deck

Steam labels New Classic as Deck Verified. The Classic app is labeled Playable. Playable means caveats: settings, a community layout, or Japanese UI on Classic. Classic is Japanese only on every device.

Lock 60fps docked or handheld. Official HUD art shows a 60 counter. Danmaku and bomb windows are authored against that tick. If SteamOS and the game both expose a limiter, set both to 60. New Classic lists Steam Cloud and 24 achievements; Classic lists Cloud. Family Sharing does not change the 64-bit requirement.

Nintendo Switch and Switch 2

Nintendo’s download size is about 1.255GB, larger than Steam’s 1GB line. The product plays in TV, tabletop, and handheld. Switch Standard grants Classic, so you still store two versions. Nintendo also sells a Switch 2-specific product; buy the tile that matches the hardware you use as primary. Turn off TV motion interpolation.

PlayStation 5 uses the same 1080p presentation. There is no published Pro-mode split. Treat it as a stable 60fps 2D shooter; check official links if Sony adds a performance note.

Input devices

Steam marks keyboard-only as an accessibility option and partial controller support on New Classic, with Xbox and PlayStation controllers listed. Classic lists full controller support. Bind movement, shot, bomb, and focus before a graded credit. Classic key config includes a confirm button (JYUNYA noted it for console parity).

A pad should handle menus and play. Gyro layouts are not promised. If face buttons cannot shoot, bomb, and focus, fix the layout before blaming the shot type ranking. Full maps belong on controls. Mice are not a movement device.

Settings advice: stay at 60fps

Official screenshots of the New Classic HUD show a 60 frame counter. Build your settings around that number.

  • Fullscreen or borderless at 60Hz, or 120Hz with a 60fps cap.
  • VSync on if you see tearing; do not uncap the simulation.
  • On Deck, use the 60Hz / 60fps limiter even if the panel can do 90.
  • On TVs, turn off motion interpolation so bullets stay readable.

Adjustable difficulty is a Steam flag, not a substitute for Easy or Normal. Challenge Mode is a practice rule; see the practice planner.

What these specs do not promise

New Classic is 1080p, not a 4K UI. Classic is the 2002 recreation with the same PC minimum and Japanese-only text. Cloud is save sync. Family Sharing is a library flag, not a second player. 32-bit Windows and Windows 7 are out of spec. Do not keep a 2002 EXE around as a substitute; this remaster is the supported 64-bit path. A used 8th-gen U-series laptop already clears the published minimum; spend leftover money on a 60Hz display and a keyboard you can bomb with, then open Getting Started.

Launch SKUs sit on launch notes. Update this page when Valve or Nintendo retag Deck status or download size.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about New Classic, Classic, shot types, and Extra Stage.

What is the Steam minimum CPU and GPU?

Core i5-8350U, Intel UHD Graphics 620, 4GB RAM, DirectX 11, Windows 10/11 64-bit, 1GB storage.

Is there a Steam recommended spec?

Not a separate table. Steam repeats the 64-bit requirement under Recommended. Treat the minimum as the real bar and keep 60fps.

How big is the Switch download?

About 1.255GB. Steam lists 1GB for the game. Deluxe audio is extra on PC.

Can I play with only a keyboard?

Yes. Steam lists a keyboard-only option. Controllers are supported with the caveats on this page and on controls.

Should I uncap FPS above 60?

No. Official HUD shots show 60fps. Danmaku timing and bomb windows assume that tick.

Does Classic have different PC requirements?

Steam reprints the same minimum. Classic is Japanese only and listed Playable on Deck rather than Verified.
